The Latest in the NFL: Goodell impressed with Vick, Browns to decide on QB

nfl logoEagles – Who could say that about a month ago, that Michael Vick would be playing in early as Week Three in the NFL season or playing at all with an NFL team? Well this tale just keeps getting better and better! Roger Goodall has granted Vick full reinstatement into the NFL and will be playing as early as late September, not in October as it was earlier ruled on.  After careful consideration resulting of his progress and tremendous support from the team, Goodall decided to shorten his suspension. It would be his first NFL regular-season game since he was sent to prison for his role in operating a dogfighting ring. Vick was released from federal custody July 20 after serving 18 months of a 23-month sentence. The Eagles will be taking on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sept. 27th at home. Good Luck Michael!

Browns deciding on QB? Although the Browns haven’t officially announced who will be their starting quarterback, first-year coach Eric Mangini will sit out QB Bradley Quinn or Derek Anderson in the preseason final. By sitting out both of the players who are vying for the job, Mangini evidently has seen enough to make his decision. Quinn, who had two preseason starts, completed 21 of 31 passes for 225 yards and one touchdown and one interception, and Anderson, who started once, finished 15 of 26 for 207 yards with two interceptions.

I’ve read the NFL policy on discipline, with regard to the Ben Roethlisberger case, and I understand that. But I do not understand how, under that policy, the NFL could have reinstated Michael Vick. Yes, he served his time, but that does not assume his morals or ethics have improved. What he did was totally unfeeling, deriving pleasure from pain and suffering. How could he possibly serve as a role model or representative of the standards of the NFL? Time in prison does not estabish core values. As a Pittsburgher and a Steeler fan, I respect your right to deal with Ben Roethlisberger within the stated policies of the NFL, but I abolutely do not understand or respect the decision to reinstate Michael Vick.
