Canadian Mountie Road to Green Bay
I am the Canadian Mountie
Hello folks, I am the Canadian Mountie. I visit Green Bay, Wisconsin every year to share in the festivities with fellow Packer fans and friends from in and around Lambeau Field.
From Winnipeg, Manitoba to Green Bay, Wisconsin
I travel from Winnipeg, Manitoba to Green Bay, Wisconsin for a football game in December or January. There is nothing like the frozen tundra in the coldest days of the year. I really mean, nothing like it. The smell of brawts, burgers, cheese curds and BBQ food is like mamma’s home cooking. Strait from the North End of Winnipeg.
Every year for the past 7 years!
I have made the trip to Green Bay, every year for the past 7 years. Over that time, i have visited with good people and great friends.
I remember making the very first trip. It was quite scary. I rented a car and planed it out including rest stops, supper stops and even shopping centers. The Canadian dollar was only 70 cents US and buying alot of stuff wasnt in the picture.
How much money should we bring?
The first time I ventured on the trip to Lambeau, I wasn’t sure how much money to bring. I had so many questions. The first being: How much should I pay for tickets? Isn’t Lambeau Field sold out for 40 years?
I figured its best to be over prepared. I took down about $4,000 US dollars for a 4 day trip. It was pretty funny in heign sight. that works out to $1,000 US per day. I planned on spending at least $400 each per ticket, so that would have been $800 right there… leaving us with only $3200 US. After gas, hotel, meals, entertainment, clothing and everything else involved in the trip, i figured we’d barely make it back home with anything. Boy was I wrong there.
My Budget for Lambeau Field
2 Tickets $800.00
4 nights hotel $400.00
8 Meals $300 (late breakfast and dinner)
Snacks $100
Entertainment $500.00
Clothing purchases $1000.00
Gasoline $600.00 (seeing as how it is 13 real hours of driving to Green Bay)
Car repairs/emergency $1000.00
As you can see, the estimated budget is already a whopping $4700.00
Actual Trip costs
2 Tickets $220.00
3 nights hotel $240.00 (we slept in the car on the side of the road, becuase we where too tired)
5 Meals $210 (late breakfast and dinner)
Snacks $20
Entertainment $300.00
Clothing purchases $300.00
Gasoline $440.00 (The cost of gasoline is WAY lower in the US)
Car repairs/emergency $0
The actual cost was only $1730.00 US
My 2009 Trip
After looking back on the past trips to Lambeau Field, I’ve come up with my favorite trip highligts
New years on the Highway
Yes, its true. we’ve spent new years on the highway between Wittenberg and Shawano. If you dont know where that is then your not alone. Neither did I. All i knew about it was that there was a dingy 24 gas station that sold the best cheese curds I’ve ever had. The weird thing is that, I couldnt tell you what it was called and I probably couldnt find it if i spent the entire day searching. It was one of those magical moments in a Packer fans lifetime.
Arizona beating the Vikings
It was epic. Only the true Packer fans will remember that the Arizona Cardinals beat the Minnisota Vikings to put the Green Bay Packers into the NFC north playoffs. I was my second Packer game in Lambeau Field. We sat watching the game, cheering on the Pack as we marched down the field to score the go-a-head touchdown. Suddenly, the croud erupted with a defening scream and cheer. The Arizona Cardinals knocked out the Vikings to put us into the NFC North playoffs. I coudn’t hear my own voice. Its an expreience that most will never know. It was my favorite moment in this Packer fans life.
Bringing all family kids to Lambeau Field
All 6 of us went to a game! Myself, Jenny, Sarah, Shanna, Noah and Asia. Yes it’s true. We drove our minivan down to Lambeau Field. It took a total of 2 days to get there. On the way, our wheel fell off the van. Yes, i mean literally fell off the van. new tires put on the van at Walmart in Winnipeg only 2 days earlier along with an oil change. I figured that was the best idea for the family. It wasnt until we got into Minneapelos that the wheel started making noises. I didnt even know what it was. i just pulled over. I checked it over in the dark but didnt see anything out of the ordinary. after slowly driving down a side street, the wheel came right off. Good thing we where only going 10 miles an hour. After some mechanical work and paying a paper carrier $40 bucks to drive me to a 24 hour walmart, we managed to get the spare tire back on and drive to the next city of eau claire. Thats where we picked up a new rim and put in 2 studs that had sheered off.
By the time we got to Green Bay and into our hotel, it was like home for the kids. Asia was only about 7 months old. We brought Sarah and Shanna along to Green Bay to take care of Asia (7months) and Noah (4 years old) while Jenny and I went to the game.
The plans quickly changed when we brought all the kids down to the football stadium. There was now 6 of us… I wanted to show the kids the great excitement and energy of Lambeau Field and Lombardi Avenue. But it didnt work out that way. I knew we had a good chance of getting 4 tickets together or even 5.
I immediately thew up my hands and started asking EVERYONE for 4 tickets. “Got Four tickets?” My son Noah was even into the action. He was asking people, “Four Tickets?” After some work and a few difficult minutes, we managed to score 4 tickets together! We had to take this opprotunity to get them.
And thats how all the family went to Lambeau. Even with a 7 month old baby. She was probably the youngest fan in the stadium of 72,000.
Brett Favres great goodbye
This was one very good time at Lambeau. Brett Favres last game when he left the field for the very last time… or so we thougth.
Meeting the Title Town Clown
He has come to become one of my very good friends. He is the number one fan in my books, hands down. Yes, i’d have to admit it… im pretty bias when it comes to the Clown. He is in the Packer fan hall of fame and I consider him a VERY good friend and comrade.

Hello,
I’d like to go to Lambeau, but I also have a 7 month old and it’s not an option to leave her at home. How was it with the baby regarding space, cold and other aspects? Did you had to pay a ticket for her?
Thanks for your help!
Hey David,
I would make some recommendations.
1. At that age, they dont need a ticket. they just sit in your lap.
2. Bundle them up warm with extra blankets. The only indoor part of Lambeau is the atrium. you can duck in there every few minutes to warm up. When we went, it was -10, not too cold.
3. Put baby in a front baby carrier, not a stroller… it also makes it easier to get up the 100+ stairs at Lambeau, and you can check on baby every few minutes.
4.Dont pay more than 20-40 dollars above ticket face value. I total you should expect to pay about 140 per ticket max.
5. Bring a seat warmer and warm boots. the seats are metal and usually ICE cold. Your shoes will also freeze to the concrete.
6. get alot of hot chocolate, your gonna need it.
Dont be intimidated by Lambeau. Its cold but when your shoulder and people are in front of you then your pretty warm.
Have a great time!

The Canadian Mountie.
Hey Darrick,
You may remember me from Lambeau. I’m the Canadian who came from Toronto with the cases of Molson Canadian. Great site you have here and it was great meeting you yesterday. I hope you had a safe drive back to Winnipeg and I hope to see you next season at Lambeau!

Kev, loved seeing you and enjoyed sharing a good ole, Canadian Beer with you. Folks, i gotta tell you. Kevin had a trunk full of luggage, 2/3rds of it was beer. I swear his crew had at least 60 cans of Molson Canadian! Great work Kev, you represented us very well!
lets keep in touch!

Haha, when we come back, we’re going to bring the house again. We normally protect our finest resource (our beer), but anything is worth sharing with fellow Packers fans. I hope to see you there again next year and it would be great to keep in touch! If you’ve got a Facebook, you’ve got my e-mail!
